Mission
Statement
The
gospel commission places on every believer the responsibility
and inestimable privilege of playing an active roll in taking
the healing power of the gospel to a lost world. This
calls for living the Christian life in all its fullness and
sharing the blessings of that abundant life in Christ, with all
for whom He died in the hope that many will accept Jesus as
their personal Savior and join the kingdom of God. Many
of those who need the gospel are in remote locations where it
is difficult to travel and maintain a missionary operation. The
mission of Mission Support Network is to support the church’s
missionary endeavors by providing a communications and air
network that enables supportive individuals and groups to hear
of mission needs and have the transport and communications
support to go with the church’s blessing to share gospel
services with those in need and provide a channel for their
logistical support while on location.
Objectives
1. Provide safe, reliable, financially sustainable, daily
air services in Papua New Guinea and beyond from decentralized
local bases to support Missionary endeavor and basic service
delivery in remote communities.
2.
Provide
accessible communications services in Papua New Guinea and
beyond to facilitate Medical Evacuations, and other Missionary
activities and the efficient use of our aircraft in their
service to remote communities.
3.
To use
our personal and corporate presence to influence the people we
come in contact with for Christ.
4.
To use
our resources to facilitate the nurture and spiritual growth of
people in remote communities.
5.
To give
to God the glory for every achievement He grants us and to take
every failure and obstacle to Him in prayer until He provides a
clear path ahead and the guidance and resources needed to
fulfill His will.
6.
To work
in Harmony with the church and its administration and Adventist
Aviation Services PNG and use our influence and resources to
support their soul saving efforts through the aviation and
communications services we provide.
7.
To
encourage and facilitate mission involvement for church
members.
8.
To
encourage and inspire Adventists and particularly young people
with missionary ideals and provide opportunities for them to
experience mission involvement and find career opportunities in
mission.
9.
To plant
this service model in local areas throughout PNG and beyond
where it is needed as God blesses and opportunities
arise.
AIMS
1.1 To establish a local base initially in Vanimo and commence
mission support flying operations to relieve the suffering of
remote communities who now have very little air
service.
1.2 To
actively fund raise for aircraft and support
needs.
1.3 There
are many needy communities out from Vanimo and all over Papua
New Guinea who depend totally on aviation for their medical,
ministerial, educational, governmental and commerce services.
There is much more need for carrying produce, food, other
necessities and passengers to and from these communities than
there are services available to carry these. This
supports the financial sustainability of regular
services.
1.4
Missionary services travel with paying loads to allow timely
movement of mission traffic at no or minimal cost. Such
services include the transport of Pastors, teachers, Nurses,
Doctors, church administrators, treasury personnel, Church
authorized Lay missionaries. It also includes the
transport of supplies like Sabbath School lesson quarterlies,
Bibles, Messages, wages, reports, Offerings, shopping for
church staff, building materials for churches, schools,
clinics, grape juice for ordinances, etc.
1.5 We
aim to continue to provide a medical evacuation service. People
with life threatening conditions will be transported even if
they are unable to pay.
1.6 We
aim to actively seek and foster ways of helping remote
communities to develop industries that uplift the people out of
poverty through sustainable ecologically responsible
industry. At present many villagers in remote areas
cannot afford clothing, education or medical
assistance.
1.7 Air
services are conducted under the legal coverage of an Air
Operator Certificate by experienced licensed pilots under the
supervision of a government approved check and training
system. Aircraft are maintained to government approved
and supervised standards to ensure safety and dispatch
reliability.
2.1 A
communications network is essential for timely medical
evacuations and for the efficient management of aviation
services. It supports remote communities by allowing essential
messaging for services and for the community
itself.
2.2 To
establish a communications network at remote airstrips we
serve.
2.3 To
have dedicated communications operator(s) who will relay
messages in and out of remote communities as the network
develops.
3.1 While
our major function is to provide a logistical framework for
other specialized missionary groups to provide missionary
services, we aim to encourage church members to take part and
be involved in mission projects. Our staff will be particularly
encouraged to get personally involved in at least one
missionary project.
3.2
Provide tracts on our aircraft and waiting room for people to
read.
3.3
Provide medical/spiritual audio/video programs in our waiting
room.
3.4 To
pray publicly prior to each flight for the safety of the flight
and for God’s blessing on the passengers.
4.1
Provide special fares for church members wanting to travel to
camp meetings and church sponsored programs. The experiences
gained at these programs are then a strengthening influence in
the remote communities when these people return
home.
4.2 To
prioritize freight being consigned to or from remote
communities to fund raise for church buildings, church schools,
fees for students at church boarding schools, travel to church
programs and other church benefiting projects.
4.3 To
provide special freight rates for verified materials for church
buildings, schools and clinics.
4.4 To
provide special rates for verified church workers and lay
missionaries on authorized church business.
4.5 We
aim to establish and maintain a library of resources for use in
missionary activity in remote areas e.g. Generators, public
address systems, video equipment and tapes / disks.
5.1 The
mission field is in a very real way the theatre of God’s power
and providence as the agencies of heaven strive against the
formidable forces of evil, to uplift fallen humanity and bring
a saving knowledge of Christ into people’s lives. Every
step requires faith and prayer for success. Success belongs
totally to God and is accompanied by joyful praise. Our
burdens are carried to God in prayer humbly depending on Him
for His wisdom, leading and enabling power.
5.2 We
aim for prayer and faith to be a part of our corporate culture
as we pray together for one another and for the progress of the
work God has called us to do.
6.1 As
one of many supporting groups within the body of the church, we
aim to co-operate with the church and its administration to the
best of our ability. We may not be able to respond to
every request we get. The needs of PNG are so
great.
6.2 We come to support and help the church and remote
communities. To serve rather than be
served.
6.3 We
aim to consult often with the local mission officers in
locations where we are operating. This way we can focus
our efforts for maximum benefit to the thrust of that local
mission. We aim to help provide the vital link between
the remote areas wand the local mission. Often
pilots become aware of issues that the local mission needs to
know about, planned baptisms, sick workers, or other problems.
It is essential that the missionary pilot pick up on these
things and communicate them in a timely manner to the local
mission and relay messages back out again.
6.4 While
we are a not for profit organization, any surplus will be
tithed before reinvesting the major portion of it back into
strengthening and extending the service for the benefit of
mission in remote areas.
6.5 We
aim to support the ministry of Adventist Aviation Services PNG
(AAS), the denominational air service through sharing of
operational information for example airstrips and weather
conditions. We will assist with fuel and accommodation
requirements while they are working in areas we are serving and
any other way we can within our capacity.
6.6 These
contributions will assist AAS in the provision of additional
services to local missions in the Union.
7.1 Papua
New Guinean church members are very active in supporting their
church and its missionary activity. There are many lay
groups who work supportively with the church’s outreach. Many
are limited in what they can do by the logistic challenges of
their location and the cost of travel to remote communities. We
aim to facilitate mission approved groups traveling to do
missionary work.
7.2 The
Laity Mobile Health Service is a splendid example of this
activity. We aim to provide the transport and logistical
support that groups like LMHS need, to reach out with their
healing and health educational services to remote communities.
They provide: immunization patrols, flying clinics, staff
permanent clinics, health education, village clean up
campaigns, maternal and child health and family planning
services and counseling, midwifery services, gospel
presentations with picture roll and video equipment. 2 new
villages are opening up to our missionaries as a result of this
groups work.
7.3 Many
church members in Western Countries feel the desire to actively
participate with the talents God has given them, in some aspect
of the mission effort. Fly and builds are a good example of
this. We aim to assist church approved groups from
overseas who come to PNG to assist in missionary
endeavor.
7.4 We
aim to encourage and facilitate opportunities for lay people
both in PNG and overseas to hear of needs they can assist with,
help them get to where they are needed, support them on
location and assist in providing feed back to them afterwards
of the results of their activity.
7.5 To
develop and maintain an interactive website which can provide a
worldwide shop front for the network and give access to mission
supporters to find out information about mission projects,
encounter thrilling mission stories and discover ways of being
practically involved in mission.
8.1
Mission pilots have a front seat view of mission needs and get
to witness and hear first hand accounts of exciting mission
field experiences. We aim to share these with the church,
particularly young people and encourage them to consider a
career in missionary service.
8.2 We
aim to encourage contributions to the church’s mission
offerings whenever they are held.
8.3 We
aim to encourage relationships with Adventist Flight training
schools and participate in student missionary programs.
We aim to show these students the needs of isolated people and
how aviation and communications professionals can offer hope to
these people.
8.4 We
aim to offer opportunities for Adventist Flight Training School
staff to gain mission field experience.
8.5 We
aim to have our staff available for appointments at Adventist
Flight Training Schools to tell experiences in mission aviation
to flying students and present to them a picture of the job
satisfaction that beckons them in a missionary pilot career
choice.
9.1 There
are many remote areas in PNG badly in need of these services.
Once the service has consolidated its operations in the Vanimo
area, we aim to establish this model of service in other
locations around PNG Specifically in areas where there is great
need and where the local mission would obtain significant
benefit. Specifically Lae, Mt.Hagen, Tabubil,
Morseby/Popondetta, Alotau, Kokopo, Kikori/Daru and
other opportunities as they arise.
9.2 Often
small focused groups work very efficiently. We aim to help
other groups supportive of the church’s mission in their
missionary endeavors with the services we provide. This would
include other aviation professional groups who have a burden to
work supportively in relation to the church.
